Controversial proposal in Iran’s parliament to change transit rules in the Strait of Hormuz

Fars News Agency reported that a bill currently under review in the Islamic Consultative Assembly would propose new regulations for the transit of ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. According to this draft: The passage of ships belonging to the United States, Israel, and other “hostile countries” through the Strait of Hormuz would be prohibited. The transport of any cargo associated with Israel, whether military or non-military, would be banned. Ships or cargoes associated with actions against the “Axis of Resistance” would not be allowed to transit. Countries or individuals that have caused damage to Iran will be deprived of the right of passage until compensation is paid. For violations, a fine of up to 20% of the cargo’s value is considered. Responsibility for controlling transit, managing navigation, security, and protecting the environment would be assigned to the government and armed forces.
