🔶A World War II-era bomb found in the Rhine River

According to Cologne’s city authorities, a 250-kilogram bomb from World War II was found in the Rhine River, within the Rhine Park area in the Cologne-Deutz district. The bomb disposal operation will be carried out on the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, and as a result several hundred people have been forced to evacuate.

According to officials, the bomb is a dud and has an impact-trigger fuze on its end.

Cologne’s city authority has also said that, in order to neutralize the bomb, an area with a radius of about 400 meters must be evacuated and blocked off. Rhine Park is located within this area, as are the premises of the RTL television network and the nTV television network.

The unexploded bomb was discovered because there has been no rainfall in recent weeks and the water level of the Rhine has dropped. Citizens had found the bomb in the coastal area.
