According to Maryam Rahmati, an Iran International reporter from New York, the Trump administration has imposed restrictions on the Islamic Republic’s delegation, including Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the Islamic Republic, and Abbas Araqchi, the foreign minister, who are coming to New York to attend the UN General Assembly. Despite having received visas, Islamic Republic officials are only allowed to travel from John F. Kennedy Airport to the hotel where they will stay, and to move between the Islamic Republic’s representation on Third Avenue and the United Nations headquarters on First Avenue within an area of about half a kilometer.

The U.S. State Department has also said that, unlike previous trips, these officials cannot shop at stores such as Costco and BJ’s and at luxury shops, while the people of Iran are facing difficult economic conditions and shortages of water and electricity. The UN General Assembly is set to begin in two days, and the Islamic Republic delegation is the only delegation facing such restrictions.
