Amirhossein Mirasmaeili, a journalist, said that the dispute over the appointment of Mohsen Rezaei as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and unanswered questions about the situation of Mojtaba Khamenei has caused disagreements within the Islamic Republic’s security structure to become more openly visible than before.

He added that this situation could turn into a serious challenge in negotiations with the United States, because, according to him, Washington has repeatedly seen the Islamic Republic fail to carry out its commitments over the past two years. Mirasmaeili said the removal of Zolghadr and the appointment of Mohsen Rezaei also show that there is no centralized power core in the Islamic Republic that makes a single decision, and that foreign parties need to know who they must negotiate with in order to reach an agreement.
