🔻UN experts call for an end to «inhumane treatment and arbitrary executions» in Iran

UN human rights experts on Thursday urged Iranian authorities to end what they described as «the increase in arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, torture, and arbitrary executions» targeting ethnic minorities.

In a statement, they said Kurdish and Baluch minorities have been affected more than others by these actions, and should be able to live «in safety, with dignity, and free from discrimination».

The signatories, including Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, said that since the protests in Dey, thousands of people have been detained, and people belonging to ethnic minorities are often faced with broad and vague charges related to national security.

According to these experts, after the joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran on 9 Esfand 1404 and the start of the Middle East war, arrests and executions have increased.

Based on Amnesty International figures, Iran executed more than 2,150 people last year and had the highest number of executions in the world after China.

UN experts say that since the beginning of this year, at least 24 Baluch and 22 Kurdish people have been executed, and more people are also at imminent risk of execution. They also said that pressure on Kurds and Baluch has extended beyond Iran as well, and includes threats and surveillance of people living outside the country.
