Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the U.S. president, and his new wife, Bettina, confirmed that a Russian oligarch reported to have close ties with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, paid for part of their wedding celebrations.

The couple wrote in an Instagram post that “our dear friend, Umar” hosted two nights of events and celebrations after their wedding ceremony on Friday.

Umar Kremlev is the president of the International Boxing Association.

The approximate value of these payments, previously reported by the ProPublica news outlet, has been estimated at hundreds of thousands of dollars, and includes the cost of renting an island in the Bahamas.

This gift has raised questions in American media about foreign influence on the family of the U.S. president.

Of course, in their Instagram response to this issue, Donald Jr. and Bettina wrote: “Generosity doesn’t necessarily mean there is a specific purpose, agenda, or instruction behind it.”
