🔻Donald Trump, the U.S. president, told journalists on Wednesday that he thinks the war with Iran “will end immediately after the election in the United States.” Mr. Trump’s reference is to the midterm election in November in the United States.

This election is scheduled to be held on November 3 (December 12, according to the Iranian calendar).

He added: “Because they can no longer resist. They are desperate, and they are trying to influence the election so that we will have a weak and inappropriate group of people there, so that we leave them to their own devices and allow them to obtain nuclear weapons. All they want is a nuclear weapon, and if they get a nuclear weapon, the entire world will face a major problem.”

He also said that “negotiations may happen; but this is not what we are looking for.”

In his remarks, Mr. Trump also referred to sinking nine Iranian oil tankers and said that “we carried out these attacks.”
