Evidence has been found of a collision between Deimos and a very large asteroid. While the impact did not destroy the Martian moon, it resulted in a virtually complete reshaping of its appearance, the University of Bern reported.

An asteroid with a diameter of 320 meters struck Deimos at a glancing angle, causing the southern part of the Martian moon to disintegrate.
