🔻Following an unprecedented outbreak of malaria at Frankfurt Airport, 6 employees contracted the disease and 2 of them died.

According to German health officials, it is likely that mosquitoes carrying malaria entered the busiest airport in the country on an aircraft, causing the outbreak of the disease, which was identified for the first time in July.

A spokesperson for Fraport, the company that runs the airport’s day-to-day operations, told the BBC that one employee died as a result of contracting the disease, while public health authorities on Wednesday afternoon, 4 Shahrivar, announced that two of the infected people had died.

The BBC has learned that six male airport employees who worked in different areas of the airport were infected with the disease, and the authorities are conducting blood sample testing to determine whether all of them were infected by a single infected mosquito or whether six different mosquitoes were responsible for transmission.
