Fouad Hussein, Iraq’s foreign minister, said: “The ongoing clash between Tehran and Washington has cast a shadow over the countries of the region and the global economy,” and emphasized the importance of “opening channels of dialogue between the relevant parties and reaching peaceful solutions that help prevent further repercussions and financial and economic crises.”

According to Iraq’s news agency, in a statement the Iraqi Foreign Ministry wrote that Hussein—who chaired the delegation of the Republic of Iraq at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Arab League in Cairo, the capital of Egypt—reiterated Baghdad’s position of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and rejecting war and the expansion of clashes.

He emphasized the need to prioritize dialogue and political and diplomatic tools to reduce tensions and achieve security and stability in the region.

Hussein also stressed Baghdad’s commitment, as the current chair of the Arab summit, to “strengthen Arab solidarity and consensus, as well as unified positions regarding the challenges facing the region, and also support for the Palestinian people.”
