🔻 A Hamas delegation, on its trip to Egypt, emphasized the group’s commitment to implementing Trump’s peace plan

A Hamas delegation has traveled to that country to hold talks with Egyptian officials. The delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, the group’s political leader and senior negotiator, met and discussed with Hassan Rashad, the head of Egypt’s intelligence agency.

Egypt’s state news agency reported that the delegation emphasized the group’s commitment to implementing the peace plan of Donald Trump.

At the end of last July, Hamas announced that it is ready to hand over its weapons to a newly formed technical committee that is set to take charge of Gaza. The move is part of a 15-point plan announced by Trump’s “Peace Committee.”

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the plan and said that Israeli forces will not leave Gaza as long as Hamas has not been completely disarmed.

The Hamas delegation entered Egypt on Saturday evening; a trip that took place before Jared Kushner, Trump’s envoy, traveled to the region.

One Hamas official told Agence France-Presse that talks in the coastal city of Al-Alamein will cover the latest developments in the negotiations and efforts to get Israel to comply with the agreement, including implementation of the 15-point roadmap.

The official added that the Hamas delegation is expected to inform Egyptian officials of Israel’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, and that Khalil al-Hayya will stress Hamas’s readiness to implement the agreement; provided that Israel also declares its commitment to it.

Hamas sources also said that during Jared Kushner’s trip to Egypt, a meeting will be held between the Hamas negotiating delegation, Nikolay Mladenov, the senior representative of Trump’s “Peace Committee” on Gaza, and American officials, to discuss obstacles to implementing the agreement.
