Belgrade’s eternal derby, between Red Star and Partizan, began with a minute of official silence for Ratko Mladić “the butcher of Bosnia,” a criminal who had been condemned for committing genocide in Srebrenica and died in The Hague prison.
Fans of both rival clubs chanted his name together.
Red Star supporters displayed a banner with the phrase “Pravac Potočari” — a reference to Mladić’s 1995 order during the Srebrenica massacre — along with his image.
His funeral ceremony has been scheduled for tomorrow.
The Srebrenica Memorial Association has called for “Red Star” to be banned from European competitions.
