🔶 Iran: Internet slowdown was due to a fiber optic cut in Armenia and has been resolved

Internet speed in parts of Iran declined over the past few days. Officials of the Islamic Republic say this disruption is not related to domestic communication restrictions.

Behzad Akbari, Deputy Minister of Communications and CEO of Iran’s Infrastructure Communications Company, reported on X on Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar (September 9) that “the fiber outage has been resolved and the network is stable.”

Akbari said the cause of the internet slowdown was a cut in one of the fiber optic routes in the territory of Armenia, but did not provide further details.

Earlier, the Islamic Republic had severely limited access to the internet during nationwide protests. After the attacks by the United States and Israel on February 28, another outage was imposed, and lack of access to the global internet lasted about 87 days, until the start of the reconnection process on May 25 and 26 of this year.
