🔻 Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the new U.S. sanctions as “far beyond an economic war” and said the move is an attempt to impose Washington’s extraterritorial rule on other countries.
He says that no government has the right to force banks and economic entities of other countries to stop their legitimate cooperation with third countries, and added that U.S. secondary sanctions “have no basis in international law.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson of Iran also said that “economic intimidation” to compel an independent government to change its policies is a wrongful act in the international arena, and called its pairing with a naval blockade “a clear example of a predatory act of aggression.”
Mr. Baghaei warned that compliance with such policies could, according to him, lead to “a return to the era of blatant colonialism” and undermine the concept of national sovereignty in the international system.
