Johan Waddevoll, Germany’s foreign minister, said in an interview with Al Arabiya on Thursday, 2 Mehr, that any negotiations with Tehran must end the “Islamic Republic’s nuclear threat,” and he expressed doubt about Tehran’s readiness to abandon its nuclear program.

Waddevoll said: “I am not sure that Iran is willing to give up its nuclear program.” He also called the Islamic Republic’s “nuclear threat” an “element that causes war.”

In another part of the interview, the German foreign minister addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and said that freedom of navigation must be the governing principle in this strait. He added that there is no reason for the Islamic Republic to collect fees in the Strait of Hormuz.

Waddevoll also said: “The Iranian government must think about saving its own people.”

Regarding developments in Yemen as well, he condemned the Houthis’ behavior and said that Germany supports Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government.

The German foreign minister called the Bab al-Mandab Strait a “vital artery of Europe” and said: “We will take measures that prevent the Houthis from controlling Bab al-Mandab.”
