Khomeini’s promise has been fulfilled! From stealing cream to rice and legumes In recent weeks, reports have been published about the theft of food items. According to these reports, some of the accused have no criminal record and, for the first time, have been detained on charges of stealing cheese, yogurt, cream, or oil. Reports have also been published of snatching meat from shoppers, the theft of 15 tons of rice from a warehouse in Rey, and the armed theft of rice and oil from shops in Iranshahr.

Putting these news items side by side raises a bitter question: what has happened to the economy, the people’s tables, and their dignity such that food has found its way from people’s tables into theft cases?
