📷 Lake Sasyk-Sivash in Russia’s Republic of Crimea

Lake Sasyk-Sivash is Crimea’s largest salt lake, located in the west of the peninsula between the cities of Yevpatoria and Saki.

The lake is best known for its water, which turns pink or even burgundy in summer (especially in July and August). The pink color comes from Dunaliella salina, a species of green algae that lives in salt water and produces carotenoids, giving the lake its warm color.
