👈New U.S. sanctions against Iran; senior military commanders sanctioned!

These sanctions cover five areas of digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping, and, according to the United States, target networks associated with the provision of missile and nuclear technologies, cyber operations, and the transfer of Iran’s oil revenues.

In the military section, Amir Hatami, the commander-in-chief of the Army, Reza Talaie-Nik, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, and Mohammad-Bagher Zulqader were sanctioned. In addition, prior sanctions against several senior military commanders were expanded with new bases related to weapons-related activities.

The United States also sanctioned a network made up of individuals and companies in Iran, China, Hong Kong, and Malaysia which, according to Washington, played a role in supplying sensitive equipment for Iran’s defense entities.

In the cyber area as well, several individuals associated with Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence were targeted by sanctions on charges of cyberattacks, theft of information, and digital assets.

Another part of the sanctions targets the shipping network and the “shadow fleet” associated with the transfer of Iran’s oil; several companies, individuals, and oil tankers were added to the sanctions list.

Washington has also suspended five sanctions exemptions related to certain educational, university, sports, and personal remittances activities, and issued two limited authorizations to wind down prior transactions.

Overall, beyond sanctioning specific individuals and companies, the new U.S. action increases the risk of cooperation by companies and foreign parties with these sectors by putting five economic areas under exposure to sanctions.
