🔸Reuters, citing two Western officials, reported that Britain, Norway and the United States this spring identified and stopped a Russian operation in Arctic waters that included drills to disable undersea cables.

🔸According to this report, published on Thursday, 19 Shahrivar, the sources said that submarines and vessels linked to Russia’s Directorate of Undersea Warfare, known as “GUGI,” were simulating the deployment of sensitive technology near the Svalbard archipelago—technology that could disrupt or destroy critical communication cables without leaving any clear signs of the attacker.

🔸Western officials said the joint operation by the three countries prevented Russian vessels from completing their drills and ultimately they left the area.

🔸Britain and Norway had previously reported on the identification and countering of Russian submarine operations in the northern Atlantic Ocean in April, but Reuters now reports for the first time that the operation near Svalbard was carried out with the participation of the United States and during tests of sensitive technology for sabotage of undersea cables.
