Reuters: Trump’s new request for compensation from Iran for more than 50 years of deaths attributed to it has further weakened hopes for a Hormuz peace deal. This unprecedented reciprocal demand was raised in response to Tehran’s calls to lift sanctions and to receive war damages, and it reflects the failed agreement from June. Diplomacy toward Washington has now shifted direction, while Iran is finalizing a transportation deal with Oman that would give Tehran official authority over access to the Strait of Hormuz and a stronger position than in the pre-war period.
