Romania stopped operations at its only nuclear power plant on Thursday after the water level in the Danube—used to cool the facility—fell to a record low level, the national nuclear energy company reported.

The company Nuclearelectrica had already shut down one of the two reactors at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant in July, which normally generates one fifth of all of Romania’s electricity.

The second reactor also had to be stopped “due to a significant and continuing decline in the water level of the Danube River,” the company said in a statement.
