Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said that from early Monday, a decisive economic operation—"the largest financial attack ever prepared against a foe"—will begin against Iran.

He wrote in a post on the social network X that "President Trump has eliminated Iran’s military capabilities, destroyed almost 100 percent of its military factories, and buried its nuclear program."

He said that the aim of the United States is to "cut off all vital economic arteries and routes that keep the authoritarian regime alive, so that Tehran is ultimately left completely alone."

In his message, Mr. Bessent wrote: “The president has created the conditions so that we can draw on all the capacities of government institutions, all legal authorities, and actions that many had thought we would never resort to.”

The U.S. Treasury Secretary said that the Islamic Republic over the years has “extorted” as security guarantees and has survived through this: "This government has derived its power from a calculation under which Iran’s retaliation is certain"
