🔶 Stair climbing and a 39% reduction in deaths from cardiovascular diseases
This large study found that people who regularly climb stairs are significantly less at risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Based on these findings, the risk of death from cardiac factors in consistent stair climbers is 39% lower, and the risk of death from any cause is 24% lower than in those who use the stairs less.
Regular stair climbing is also associated with a reduced likelihood of developing severe cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.
Professor Vasilios Vasilio, from the Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia, says: “Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide; in such a way that the incidence of these diseases between 1990 and 2019 has almost doubled. However, these diseases can largely be prevented through a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity, a heart-friendly diet, not smoking, maintaining a proper weight, and controlling blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.”
