🔻Tasnim: Understanding between Iran and Oman does not mean reopening the Strait of Hormuz

🔻Tasnim news agency, citing an informed source, reported that the final understanding between Iran and Oman regarding arrangements for transit in the Strait of Hormuz “by no means means that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.”

According to this source close to the negotiating team, “Iran and Oman have reached agreement on the details and specifications of the new routes for entry and exit through the Strait. Based on this understanding, the entry route to the Persian Gulf will be entirely within Iran’s territorial waters, and part of the exit route will also pass through Iran’s territorial waters.”

Tasnim’s report also indicates that transit through these routes will be carried out under “Iranian arrangements,” and after the understanding is implemented, the southern route—which, according to this source, the United States has insisted upon opening—will be closed.

Based on this report, the understanding between Iran and Oman is set to be announced in a meeting with the foreign ministers of the coastal countries of the Persian Gulf and Iraq, but these countries have not had any involvement in the negotiations related to the details of the understanding.

This source also told Tasnim that Iran has conveyed to the United States, via intermediaries, seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and until those conditions are fulfilled, the strait will remain closed.

According to him, the understanding with Oman only sets a framework for how transit would be carried out in the event of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and the reopening of the strait depends on the U.S. implementing Iran’s conditions.
