The Hamshahri newspaper, the press body of Tehran Municipality, reacted to the publication of videos of sports programs in parks in a report and criticized the optional participation of citizens and the holding of mixed-gender sports, including yoga.

Referring to videos from Tehran, Qom and Mashhad, Hamshahri wrote that in some programs girls and boys exercise alongside one another, and that the type of clothing and the way these programs are held are not compatible with “customs, laws and social considerations.”

The newspaper also addressed the video of a mixed-gender yoga class in the open air and, by reposting users’ reactions, criticized the mixing and the participants’ attire in this class.

At the end, Hamshahri called for “culture-building and more supervision of sports programs and observing modesty” in public spaces.
