The designation was made over allegations of helping to evade the Islamic Republic’s sanctions and transferring hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The move is part of President Trump’s government’s “maximum economic pressure” operation to cut off the Iranian government’s financial sources.
