🔺US envoy: We were one step away from a military confrontation between Turkey and Israel

◾The U.S. special envoy of the President of the United States on Syria said that Israel’s air strike on the Abu al-Zuhur base involved a “real danger of rapid escalation into direct military confrontation between Israel and Turkey, as well as Syria.”

◾Tom Barrack, who is also the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, said on Wednesday: “The Turkish forces did not know that Israeli aircraft were en route to that specific Syrian base and were not aware of their target. Therefore, they might have decided to launch their own jets, with the assumption that they themselves were under attack.”

◾Eight air strikes in the early hours of Tuesday targeted the runway and storage facilities of the Abu al-Zuhur military base in the eastern outskirts of Idlib province in the northwest of Syria.
