A warning by the U.S. Treasury Secretary about imposing additional economic sanctions against Iran
🔸The U.S. Treasury Secretary also, on Thursday, 23 Mordad, warned Tehran about imposing further economic sanctions and threatened that Iran would be exposed to economic isolation “in a way that the world has never seen before.”
🔸Scott Bessent told the conservative TV network Newsmax: “The continuation of the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz… will prevent anything from entering or leaving Iran’s ports.”
🔸He added: “Expect more news and announcements on this in the coming week.”
🔸Bessent described a dual approach that includes financial pressure and physical blockade of the ports.
🔸Trump has recently said he would only refrain from launching another attack on Iran if an agreement is reached for the rapid reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
🔸Iran has set out a list of conditions for reopening this passage that the Trump administration is unlikely to accept: an end to the war on all fronts, the lifting of the blockade of Iran’s ports by the United States, an end to sanctions, the release of blocked assets, and compensation for damages from the wartime period.
