America says it has sanctioned all “non-sanctioned” Iranian airline companies

🔸The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar, that it has sanctioned “all remaining air routes in Iran” that had not previously been subject to sanctions.

🔸In its latest measure, the ministry targeted 36 individuals and entities for supporting Iran’s aviation industry; an industry, according to Washington, that the Iranian government uses to move weapons, forces, and illicit shipments.

🔸The list includes 27 Iranian airlines as well as companies based in countries including the United Arab Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan.

🔸In the list of Iranian airlines sanctioned, names such as Qeshm Air, Kish Air, Taban, Zagros, Asseman, and Iran Airtour can be seen.

🔸A U.S. Treasury Department official, in remarks to reporters, said: “In fact, we are removing the entire aviation sector of Iran’s economy from the market.”

🔸Steven Mnuchin, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, also said in a statement: “As part of the campaign to push out financially, we had promised that we would impose severe consequences on those who provide vital routes for financing the Iranian regime. Today, we kept our promise and sanctioned the companies that continue to support Mahan Air.”

🔸He warned “anyone who does business with Iran’s remaining airlines”: “You are at risk of being cut off from the global financial system.”
