As doubts continue over US-Iran talks over the Strait of Hormuz and the security of shipping in this waterway, oil prices in global markets rose early Friday.
Brent oil rose by 1.43% to $83.67, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose by 1.24% to $78.25 per barrel. In addition, Murban oil increased by 2.04% to $79.53.
The rise in oil prices comes as Tehran has reported nearing a temporary agreement with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz, although some reports indicate that Washington has opposed any transfer of control over ship traffic or the collection of fees by the Islamic Republic. At the same time, the Islamic Republic’s threats against energy infrastructure in the Gulf states and the continued uncertainty about the future of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have kept energy markets in a cautious state.
