🔶 Baghaei: Europe should not follow the United States’ economic war against Iran
Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on Monday, 16 Shahrivar (7 September) at his weekly press conference in Tehran that Europe should make independent decisions, because compliance with the demands of the United States in the Security Council and the Board of Governors has further pushed the role of this union into the background.
He added that the “blocking statute” of the European Union prevents European companies from following U.S. secondary sanctions and that governments are also required to support them. According to Baghaei, the European Economic Commission’s recent statement in support of economic pressure on Iran in line with international law and the independence of the EU is inconsistent, and Europe should not follow the United States’ economic war against Iran.
Baghaei, in response to remarks by Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, about a change in Iran’s strategy in the field of negotiations, said that “negotiations are absolutely neither bad nor good, but rather a tool for advancing affairs and securing the country’s interests.”
