"In the appeals court, they tied my hands, and they covered my face. In front of all the attendees, they flogged me. I received 39 lashes; they were counting themselves. Even on the same paper where they had written my charges and offenses, it was also mentioned."
These statements are from Manizha (a pseudonym; we changed her name to protect her security). She is one of two women who spoke to the BBC about their experience of being flogged by Taliban officials on different charges.
For the first time, the BBC has been able to speak with two people out of dozens of women who, in the past five years, have been sentenced to flogging by courts of the Taliban government and had the sentence carried out.
