🔻BBC Sport, in a report based on details presented in the documentary series “Mourinho,” has covered the story of Manchester United’s failure to sign José Mourinho as the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson. The documentary series will be released on Netflix on 20 Mordad 1405.
🔹According to this report, talks to bring Mourinho in continued for weeks, and meetings were held in Madrid and London. In these meetings, Ferguson told Mourinho that at the end of the 2012–2013 season, he would step down from his position.
🔹The negotiations reached contract details very quickly, and an agreement was reached, but then everything changed.
🔹In this documentary, Ferguson says that one night Mourinho called him, cried, and said he had promised Chelsea and did not want to go back on his word.
🔹Mourinho cited family reasons for his decision, although some people close to United still have doubts about this reason. His good relationship with Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, also likely played a role in this decision.
🔹After Mourinho’s appointment fell through, and given Pep Guardiola’s commitment to Bayern Munich, Manchester United chose David Moyes.
