🔶UN experts call for an end to the suppression of ethnic minorities in Iran

UN human rights experts on Thursday, August 6, urged the Islamic Republic to end what they called its “increases in arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial executions” against ethnic minorities.

In a statement, they said Kurdish and Baloch minorities have been particularly affected.

The UN experts said: “Ethnic minorities in Iran must be able to live safely and with dignity, and be protected from discrimination.”

The UN experts said that since the start of the protests in Dey 1404, Iranian officials have, according to reports, detained thousands of people.

They added: “Reports indicate a significant increase in arbitrary detentions as well as the issuing of rulings that appear to have political motivations; including against individuals belonging to ethnic minorities who are often detained under broad and vague allegations related to national security.”
