🔻Bloomberg: Two Chinese supertankers have been stopped behind the Strait of Hormuz

Bloomberg, citing ship-tracking data, reported today that two Chinese supertankers have diverted as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz and are currently stuck in the area.

According to the report, one of these supertankers (Sea V) loaded crude oil in Iraq yesterday and headed toward Hormuz, but turned back and is now stuck in this waterway. The tanker is moving under a Hong Kong flag, and MarineTraffic has reported that it has a “Chinese owner.”

According to MarineTraffic, the second tanker (Hestia), under a Hong Kong flag, arrived in the Persian Gulf earlier this week, entered the Strait of Hormuz, but later changed course and is currently in the Gulf of Oman. This vessel also has an all-Chinese crew.

Earlier this week, Reuters reported that two major Chinese shipping companies, amid heightened risk of drone and missile attacks in these waterways, have suspended the movement of their ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb.
