🔶 Canada sanctions five senior Iranian officials over involvement related to the Strait of Hormuz
Anita Anand, Canada’s foreign minister, announced the imposition of new sanctions against five Iranians due to their role in activities that have disrupted freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding area.
She said on Friday, August 14 (23 Mordad) that Canada, under the Iran Special Economic Measures Act (SEMA), will impose further sanctions on five individuals for “having a role in military, legal and communications activities that undermine international peace, security and stability.”
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that these sanctions target senior officials of the Islamic Republic, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to the ministry, the sanctioned individuals were involved in actions that have made a vital international waterway insecure and have restricted navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz and its surroundings in defiance of international law.
