Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the activities of the country’s embassy in Tehran will end on September 9.
The ministry said that it made this decision due to organizational review to allocate diplomatic resources more efficiently, as well as a preventive measure to ensure the security of Chilean diplomats in an unstable Middle East.
However, Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that closing the embassy does not mean a cutoff of diplomatic relations between Chile and the Islamic Republic.
According to this statement, after the closure of the embassy, consular services for Chilean citizens in Iran will be provided through the country’s consulate in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
