Faruq Kanei, a sociologist, told Iran International that the presence of the families of the killed at their loved ones’ graves is no longer just a family mourning, and has turned into a social and protest act.

She, referring to the continued holding of memorial ceremonies and the presence of families in public spaces and on social media, emphasized that the government’s pressure to erase remembrance for the victims has not only not removed this narrative, but has also helped to continue seeking justice and to form a social network among the families and their supporters.
