Following the release of satellite images of extensive oil leakage near Qeshm Island’s coasts by “Tank Trackers,” the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Qeshm County ordered the “immediate” identification of the source of the contamination, as well as containment operations, collection, and coastal cleanup.

In the meantime, the IRNA news agency also reported on Wednesday—two days after the satellite images were released—that the oil contamination on the southern shores of Qeshm Island had expanded to the area of the Hara Forests near the village of “Naghaseh.”

In this regard, the head of the Qeshm Department of Environmental Protection claimed that this oil slick was identified on Sunday night on the southern shores of Qeshm Island and on the Soza coast, and that environmental groups were dispatched to the site for on-the-ground investigations, but “given the tidal conditions, no contamination was observed in the maritime area.” Shahmerad

Jafari added that, after investigations on Tuesday, the oil contamination had spread to the Shib Daraz area, and that investigations regarding the source of this oil slick are still ongoing.
