Germany has expelled or deported about 400 Russian citizens since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The figure includes more than 80 diplomats, most of whom have been identified by German authorities as intelligence agents operating under diplomatic cover, along with 313 Russian ordinary citizens.

The newspaper “Bild” has described the Russian embassy in Berlin as a “spy haven” (Agentennest), used as a command center for attacks and political infiltration operations in Germany.
