I see that representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran are seeking compensation for the damage that has been inflicted upon them during the recent five-month military conflict (a conflict that began because they said they would not have nuclear weapons), even though this issue was never raised in any of our negotiations or meetings! But it is an interesting idea, because I too am now seeking compensation from Iran for all the people whom they have killed or seriously injured with roadside bombs and multiple clashes, which they are known for; clashes that were initially carried out under the leadership of General Soleimani, including the families of those killed aboard the USS Cole and thousands of others who were killed in the battles. In addition, compensation must also be paid to the families of the hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters whom Iran has killed over the past 50 years; without even considering the 52,000 people who have been killed in the past five months. I have instructed my representatives to raise this matter seriously in any future negotiations, without exception. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
President Donald J. Trump
