🔻 Iranian parliament lawmaker: senior officials probably are not in favor of withdrawing from the NPT
Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of Iran’s parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said that he “doubts” that the country’s senior officials would be in favor of Iran’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the NPT.
His remarks came after a number of lawmakers submitted a three-urgency bill on Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT to the parliament’s presiding board.
Mr. Bakhshayesh Ardestani said that withdrawal from this treaty could increase external pressure on Iran and also jeopardize support from China and Russia.
Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also said that Iran is considering withdrawal from the NPT, but no final decision has yet been made on the matter.
