Iranian planes fly to several countries, including Turkey

🔸A review of flight-tracking systems shows that on the morning of Wednesday, Mehr 1, a number of international flights operated by Iranian companies to regional countries were still in operation.

🔸The U.S. Treasury Department had previously said that, by imposing secondary sanctions, Iran’s airlines’ international activities would be halted starting Mehr 1.

🔸Based on data from these systems, on Wednesday morning aircraft departing from Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz and Gorgan were flying to destinations in Turkey, including Istanbul and Ankara.

🔸In addition, flights by Iranian aircraft toward cities in the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai, and toward Yerevan in Armenia could be seen on the flight-tracking systems.

🔸The website of Tehran’s “Imam Khomeini” airport also showed flights from Tehran to cities such as Istanbul and Ankara in Turkey, Najaf in Iraq, and Shanghai and Guangzhou in China.

🔸This comes while in the last hours of Tuesday, the Republic of Azerbaijan announced the suspension of flights by Iranian airlines to this country, and aviation officials in Iran also said that the airports of Baghdad and Muscat would not accept Iranian flights from early Wednesday.

🔸Majid Akhvan, spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Organization, had told Iranian media on Tuesday: “From 24:00 tonight, local time, the Baghdad and Muscat airports will not handle acceptance of Iranian flights.”

🔸He added: “We are coordinating and consulting so that flights whose destination is Baghdad will be redirected to the Najaf airport.”

🔸Hours before these statements, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s airline, IranAir, said it had not received any notification or instruction to stop or suspend flights of this airline from authorities in Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iraq, and, based on that, it would continue its flights to these countries.

🔸Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, had said on Monday that beginning Mehr 1, the international activity of Iran’s airlines will be stopped through the application of secondary sanctions.
