IRNA, citing Hassan Qashqavi, the spokesperson of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, reported that Articles 13, 14 and 15 of the bill “Strategic Action to Ensure Security and Sustainable Progress in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf” were approved in this commission.

Qashqavi said that, according to Article 13, vessels that do not comply with the regulations set for passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to collection of 20% of the cargo or its value and temporary detention until the punishment is carried out.

He added that the Judiciary will also establish specialized courts for the implementation of this law, with the presence of judges and experts in maritime law and international law of the seas.

Based on Article 14, individuals who cause the implementation of this law to be incomplete or delayed will be sentenced to grade five punishment. International agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz must also be within the framework of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic.

According to Article 15 as well, the General Staff of the Armed Forces is required to submit a report on the implementation of this law to the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission every three months.
