James Lankford, the Republican senator from the state of Oklahoma and co-chair of the U.S. Senate, said that the Abraham Accords require a “continuous pressure” from Congress and the White House in order to continue and expand.

In response to the question of whether the Abraham Accords can now continue on their path without ongoing political attention from Washington, he said: “Never. It will always need pressure.”

Lankford also said that negotiations are underway for new countries to join these agreements, but some countries in the region want progress on the issue of the establishment of a Palestinian state before normalizing relations with Israel.

According to the senator, the main question remains: who is legitimately representing Palestinians in any negotiation.
