📸 Malaria near Frankfurt Airport; How serious is the risk? 8 patients, and 3 people have died

Since July, eight people have contracted malaria in the vicinity of Frankfurt Airport, and three people have died. Health authorities say it is possible that infected mosquitoes, along with passengers’ luggage or clothing, were brought into Germany from malaria-endemic areas—a rare phenomenon known as “airport malaria.”

Most of those infected have been airport workers. Sudden and severe fever, chills, headache, and body aches are the initial symptoms of the disease, and health officials have asked people who live or work near the airport to seek medical care quickly if they experience these symptoms.

Experts emphasize that despite recent cases, airport malaria is still a very rare phenomenon in Germany.
