🔻NATO official response to a report about the “possibility of Iran attacking U.S. military targets in Europe”

A NATO official said that the organization is ready to deal with any kind of threat and will always take the necessary actions to defend all of its allies.

These remarks were made in response to questions about a Financial Times report, which said that Iran is likely considering an attack on U.S. military targets in Europe if Donald Trump’s war escalates.

The NATO official said: “As was demonstrated earlier this year, when NATO’s air defense systems successfully intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward Turkey in four separate cases, our deterrence and defensive posture has proven to be strong and effective.”

In a report, the Financial Times, citing people close to the government, said that Iran, in the event of war escalation by Donald Trump, has considered attacking U.S. military targets in Europe; because “Tehran is assessing its options to raise the level of tension in this dispute.”

The newspaper also said, quoting two informed sources in the Iranian government, that Iranian forces have assessed U.S. assets in southeastern European countries such as Bulgaria, which last month authorized the use of its airbase for refueling U.S. aircraft.
