Oil prices in early trading on Wednesday rose slightly and climbed for the fourth consecutive day. Uncertainty about supply provided the impetus for the rise, while investors were weighing conflicting messages from Tehran and Washington about whether the Strait of Hormuz remains open to vessels.

Brent futures rose by 26 cents, or 0.29%, to $91.28. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude also rose by 37 cents to $85.31 per barrel.

Gold prices also increased on Wednesday, with spot gold reaching $4,356.55 an ounce.
