Peygah Bani Hashemi, a senior legal researcher at the University of Chicago, said, in referring to the execution of protesters, that her experience over the past 47 years shows that political executions have not had an effective deterrent impact on subsequent protests, and that people in different periods have once again stood up against what they consider injustice.

She added that regional crises and the political interests of countries have caused Iran’s human-rights issues to be repeatedly sidelined and removed from the global community’s priorities.
