Pezeşkian says the price of a “third fuel ration” for gasoline will increase to 10,000 tomans
🔸Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, said on Friday evening, the sixth of Shahrivar, in an interview with the Islamic Republic’s government television that the price of the third gasoline ration for vehicles will increase to 10,000 tomans, but he said the time for implementing this plan has not yet been determined.
🔸The third gasoline ration for vehicles in Iran is 5,000 tomans, and if this plan by the Pezeshkian government is carried out, it would mean a 100% increase. Previously, Mohsen Hajimirzaei, head of Masoud Pezeshkian’s office, had said that the gasoline ration for vehicles in Iran is also supposed to be reduced. Vehicles have two gasoline rations at prices of 1,500 and 3,000 tomans.
🔸This comes as, in recent days, various reports and videos have been shared on social media about the “closure” of a number of fuel stations in Tehran and the formation of long lines in front of gas pumps. In his Friday-night interview, Pezeshkian again spoke about “restrictions” on gasoline imports following Iran’s naval blockade.
🔸He explained: “We have to accept that we are in wartime conditions. Now the route is closed and no goods are being imported. One of these goods is gasoline. Our income has also decreased; that is, in addition to the gasoline we produce, we must buy gasoline. As a result, even if the route is open, we also need to have the money to buy it.”
🔸Pezeshkian did not explain the exact time of the gasoline price increase and said that for this move there will be “dialogue, communication, and coordination.”
🔸The President of Iran also said that in a meeting of the heads of the three branches, he emphasized “understanding” so that, as he put it, the country’s problems would be addressed through the coordination and cooperation of all officials.
